BURNS WATER GARDENS

Deep Water and Accent Plants

Photo (2K) Pickerel Rush Pontadaria cordata
Excellent pond plant. Happy if planted up to three feet deep. This is the hardiest pickerel rush available. Spear shaped leaves are topped with spikes of blue flowers in mid-summer, then intermittently until frost. Will not survive being frozen in the ice in the winter so must be deep in the pond in winter.

Arrowhead Sagittaria latifolia
Unique arrow shaped leaves and white flowers add interest to the pond.

Arrowhead -deep water Sagittaria rigida
This plant grows in deeper water than the typical arrowhead.

Double Arrowhead Sagittaria japonica plena

Photo (3K) Marsh Marigold Caltha palustris
Wide round leaves and bright yellow flowers in early spring start the pond year out with a bang. Leaves die back during the summer's heat.
